Dear Book Group Friends,
Thank you Heather Cottrell for hosting a really fun "couples" book group meeting on the 10th of December to discuss "The Emerald Mile". It was so fun and those who came and read the book really enjoyed it. We'll do it again with our spouses so if you couldn't make it, no worries.
Up next, "Far from the Madding Crowd" by Thomas Hardy on Thursday, January 28 at 8:00 p.m. So come even if you don't read the book. We'll have a cozy movie night.
SCHEDULE
Jan 28-"Far from the Madding Crowd"-Thomas Hardy, hostess Penny McCord
Feb 25-TBD
Mar 31-"The Orphan Train"- Christina Baker Kline, hostess Norine Garrett
Apr 28-TBD
?May-26-TBD? We've canceled in the past due to high school graduation. If we don't have a lot affected by this and still want to meet, we could hold a meeting this year.
Jun 30-TBD
NEW THOUGHTS FOR 2016:
There are a lot of open months through the first half of the year. We have a lot of fun on our Thursday evenings together, but also have a great time at the Shakespeare Festival, and have even gone to a local play here in Utah County. To meet the needs of different schedules, I'd like to propose a different format for some future meetings. There are many who have expressed regret that they can't attend due to work schedules or other standing appointments they have on Thursday evenings.
Here are some ideas:
Breakfast or Lunch at Blue Lemon or other yummy type restaurant
Couples night meeting
Summer night under the stars meeting
Alternate location and time-cabin, park, canyon
Play at the Hale Center Theater or BYU or other local venue
Tea party for a Regency type read
Read the book and movie night (could be moved to a Friday or Saturday night)
Be creative! If your book has a fun setting go with it!
IF YOU'D LIKE TO HOST A MEETING IN A DIFFERENT TYPE OF FORMAT, PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP. We have a lot of open months in 2016. So let's hear from you what you'd like to do!
We'll still have meetings on the last Thursday night of the month at 8:00 unless otherwise noted, but thought it would be fun to continue mix it up from time to time.
If the thrill of book group is gone, we can pull back to every other month, or quarterly, or just go to the Shakespeare Festival in the summer also. No stress. I'd love your feedback whatever it is.
